'Minorities within a Minority'

Women in the police service are in a minority in any case, especially police officers, but if they are black, gay, disabled or transgender they may feel even more isolated. This is your opportunity to hear presentations from a range of speakers, many with personal experience of being in such a situation, to meet colleagues, and find strategies to enable you to progress if personally affected, or to assist others who might be. The speakers are from a mixture of police and outside organisations, and there will, of course, be a unique opportunity to meet colleagues from around the UK.

Confirmed speakers to date:

Marie Hyden – Experience as a disabled police officer and now a life coach
Ruth Hunt - Stonewall, the link between sexism and homophobia
Shahina Ahmed – Cambridgeshire Constabulary & IAWP Award winner, experience as a Muslim woman within the police service
Carol Campayne - Research into black women and their careers (tbc)
Transgender Group - Speaker and subject to be confirmed
Sanjay Shah - The Prime Source, 'Let it be Easy', personal motivation

There will be a slightly extended lunch break, during which time the AGM for BAWP will take place, for BAWP members – but there will still be plenty of time to eat, visit the exhibition and network!

Accommodation is available on the Sunday night, but there will not be an organised dinner, leaving delegates free to make their own arrangements, or to stay elsewhere if they prefer.
